Kiwanian of the Year -  6/14/2010
Claire Vermedahl, a 32 year member of the club and Past Lt. Governor, was named Kiwanian of the Year for his service to the club and Kiwanis International as a whole. 


Members Recognized -  6/14/2010

Club Adopts Frank Hall Park -  4/10/2010
On Kiwanis "One Day", a day on which Kiwanians around the world turn out to do a service project, the club did spring cleanup in Frank Hall Park.  The club has adopted the park and will take care of it throughout the season.  Last year the club sponsored the basketball court by raising over $21,000. toward construction.


YMCA Recieves Donation -  3/1/2010
Dennis Dieser, Director of the Albert Lea YMCA, accepts a $2100 check for youth scholarships, presented by Tim Lenhart, club president.  Kiwanis supports youth activities throughout the community.


Waffle Breakfast Held -  2/21/2010
The annual waffle breakfast was held at the American Legion with hundreds of people enjoying an all-you-can-eat meal.  Over $1000 was raised to spport Kiwanis projects directed at the children and youth of the community.


Katie Bellott Newest Member -  1/25/2010
Katie Bellott, with Cargill, Inc. of Albert Lea, was inducted into the club.  She is shown with her sponsor, Jeff Lager-Hagemeister.


BUG Program Awards -  12/22/2009
Kiwanis members went to Hawthorne School to recognize students who met their goals in the BUG (Bringing Up Grades) program.  They recieved soduko books and a gel pen for gifts, and the teachers presented a certificate. Kiwanians brought cut out cookies and helped the kids decorate them and then ate lunch with them.


Vermedahl's Honored -  12/21/2009
Leo Osbeck (left) congratulates Claire Vermedahl for achieving the George F. Hixson Diamond Level 3.  At the same time Claire's wife Ruth was recognized as a new Hixson Fellow.  Noon Kiwanis has a total of seven Hixson Fellows in the active membership, and three deceased fellows.

Club Donates to Fire Education -  11/30/2009
Iris Tarvestad of the Albert Lea Noon Kiwanis presents a $100. check to Bill Lehman of the Albert Lea Professional Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 1041 to help support their "Fire Education Program" targeting Albert Lea Area School Districts First Graders.  The students have the opportunity to see the firemen in their full gear, ask questions, learn about fire safety and take home a questionnaire to complete with their parents.  A few days later the firemen return to the classroom and

Kelly Kennedy Welcomed -  10/26/2009

Community Mentor Connection Receives Donation -  10/12/2009
Outgoing President, Marge Hamersly presented a check for $260, to Carolyn Smith representing the Community Mentorship Connection. The gift is given in honor of our speakers throughout the past club year.


Dan Dorman Inducted into Kiwanis -  10/12/2009
Mike Moore (left) sponsored Dan Dorman into Noon Kiwanis.  Dan is the Executive Director of the Albert Lea Economic Development Agency.


Check Presented to City -  9/21/2009
The club collaborated with the City of Albert Lea in creating a new basketball court near the water park on Frank Avenue.   Following two years of intensive fundraising, Kiwanis President Marge Hamersly presented a check for over $21,000 to Jay Hutchison, Park and Rec Director, who represented the City.


Dawn Freeman Welcomed to Kiwanis -  9/14/2009

Club Dedicates Basketball Court -  8/26/2009
The club gathered on August 26, to dedicate the Kiwanis Basketball Court at Frank Hall Park.  This is the culmination of a two year project, which raised over $20,000.  Business sponsors include, Mrs. Gerry's Kitchen, Erlandson Equipment, Security Bank Minnesota, Larson Contracting, and Innovance.

New Members Inducted -  8/17/2009

The Club recently inducted two new members.  Pictured is Richard Kary sponsoring his new member Matt Johnson with ReMax Realty, along with Brad Edwin of the Albert Lea Credit Bureau and his sponsor Leo Osbeck. Aktion Club Charter Dinner -  7/29/2009
The Aktion Club of Freeborn County was officially chartered at a dinner at the American Legion in Albert Lea.  Shown in the photo are officers of the club receiving the bell.  Left to right, David Anderson, Sergeant-at-Arms, Angie West, President, Jennifer Redfield, Vice President, Pauline Camerer, Treasurer, and Sue Rivard, Secretary.  In the background is Dennis Dieser who the club advisor and spearheaded the formation of the club.


Christophersons Join Kiwanis -  7/20/2009

Club Members Recognized -  7/20/2009
Claire Vermedahl and Jean Pestorious were presented with Certificates of Distinction from Kiwanis International in recognition of their sustaining contributions to the Children's Fund of the Kiwanis International Foundation.  Presenting the awards is Marge Hamersly, Club President.


Distinguished Club Recogniton -  6/15/2009
The club was honored to recieve Distinguished Club status for the club year 2007-2008.  One of only eleven clubs in the Minnesota-Dakotas District, it achieved the award by exceeding standards for service, training, and membership.  Shown are, left, Richard Paul, Club Secretary, and right, Vicki Lunning, President, who served during the period.  In the middle, presenting the award, is David Fairbrother, past Lieutenant Governor.


Lance Skov Joins Kiwanis -  5/26/2009

Kiwanis Supports Cancer Bike-a-Thon -  5/11/2009
Albert Lea Kiwanis clubs raised over $7000 for the Freeborn County Cancer Society Bike-a-Thon.  The traveling trophy this year goes to the Daybreaker club, which raised $4061.  Shown, left to right, are Chuck Karl, Mick Jaquette, from Daybreakers, and Kent Erlandson, from the Noon club.

Kiwanis One Day -  4/4/2009
Club members, left to right, Marge Hamersly, Jean Pestorious, Angie Otterman, and Larry Forster, painted classrooms at the Children's Center as part of Kiwanis One Day, a day when Kiwanis Clubs around the world all participate in service projects.


Welcome Sindy Dickey -  3/30/2009

Members Support Kids Against Hunger -  2/28/2009
14 Kiwanians and spouses supported Kids Against Hunger by filling food pouches for the children of Haiti.  The club also provided a contribution to purchase food.


Builders Club Exceeds Goal for Kids Against Hunger -  2/18/2009
Congratulations to the Builders Club!  They set a goal of $167 for Kids Against Hunger.  This amount would pay to feed two children one meal a day for a full year.  Members made Valentine cards and sold them to their classmates, making $255, which will all go to Kids Against Hunger.   The Builders Club is located at Southwest Middle School and is sponsored by Kiwanis.
